Kilcher Homestead GamesJuly 16, 2011 - Date Set For 6th Annual Kilcher Homestead Games

Join us for a fun filled day of Games, Contests, Music and GREAT FOOD for the entire family! Also, break out your running shoes and come run with us, or just come cheer on your favorite runner in the 4th Annual "Run For The Coal!" Call 907-235-8713 for more information. The Homestead Games are put on every year as a fund raiser for the Kilcher Homestead Living Museum. Admission will be $10 per person or $15 per family.

 



Kilcher Homestead Homestead Dinner
Workshop - Wild Edible Incredible Dinner

Come join us for the "Wild Edible Incredible Dinner" with Fay Smith this summer. Be a little wild! Experience a treat for your palate and your senses. Come to the historic Kilcher Homestead and eat a dinner of wild harvested fods in the historic homestead cabin/museum. You may participate in the gathering of wild vegetables, clams or fish. You will learn the history of the homestead and hear stories of the many settlers who pioneered the area and ate foods just like these! Call 299-1910 for available dates and to make reservations. Please specify whether you prefer lunch or dinner. Cost is $100 - single, $150 - couple. Maximum group size is 6 persons.




Homemade jam Workshop - "Jammin' With Fay"

Do you like picking fresh wild berries while tripping around Alaska? Here's your chance to go "Jammin' with Fay". Fay was born and raised on an Alaskan homestead, (where she still lives) and has 60+ years of jammin' experience! She will take you to her secret berry spots and entertain you with homesteading stories and adventures. Then after gathering, she'll help everyone cook up a storm making all the berries into yummy jams and jellies, many from her own original recipes. All the necessary items such as jars, sugar, etc will be provided and you will get to take home an assortment of jams at the end of the day! Schedule will include berry picking, an original homestead lunch provided by Fay, then jam making. Call Fay at 907-299-1910 available workshop dates and for registration and directions to the homestead. Cost is $175 per person.




Fish Canning Workshops Workshop - Fish Smoking and Canning Workshop

Save a day on your calendar to come out the historic Kilcher Homestead and spend the day learning how to smoke or can salmon! Learn how to prepare the fish for smoking or canning. Participate in gathering, peeling and cutting the alder wood used in the smoking process. Due to the amount of time required to complete smoking the fish, you will be notified when the fish is done and when you can pick it up. If you are out of state it can be shipped. Workshop is limited to maximum of 6 persons. Call 907-299-1910 or 907-235-8713 for available dates and to make reservations. Cost is $175 per person for Smoking fish, ($25 extra if you want us to can it for you) and $150 per person for Canning Raw Fish(without smoking it first)
